The Conn 14K is probably nearly the best all-around 4/4++ tuba there is: sound, response, intonation, etc. Since it is a BBb instrument with 3 valves and built in the shape of a sousaphone, it is not used in many professional situations. Its false tones ring so well and the pitch is so comfortably flexible that the 4th and 5th valves are not particularly missed.

The 20K is very good. For my tastes (comparing it NOT to other sousaphones but to professional tubas) the 20K sounds a bit woofy.

The 14K has guts, focus, and just the perfect amount of WHOOMP. Serendipity dictates that the 14K ALSO is usually cheaper to buy and weighs less.

OK, since I like this instrument so much, would I show up with a 14K at an important gig?...

Are you kidding? {;^/)
