Eve did an excellent job of explaining how an EEb tuba is commonly used insofar as brass bands are concerned. Having a closed mind to playing in a band which uses transposed parts (brass band) is your loss. With the number of brass bands growing in this country, there are opportunities for local tuba players to play some really challenging stuff. If you have not listened to brass band recordings (Black Dyke Mills, Williams Fairy, and many others), your really should. Some of the arrangements are including bass clef parts in addition to the standard treble parts (likely an attempt to sell more in the US), but the older stuff will not. If there is not a brass band in your area, then start one. It's worth the effort.
