Roger Bobo

Wow. The other night, I was driving by a friend's house and I turned public radio on, and this song is on, mostly high register eighth note runs, but every now and then, a few massive, low notes. Not really knowing much, I told myself that "this was one awesome bass trombonist."

Maybe I could have been smart, and realized that no bass trombonist could have such a gigantic sound on the low notes, but I was dumb, so when the song was over (I didn't catch its title) and the performer's name was said, "Roger Bobo," it blew me away. His sound on those notes was every bit as powerful as my absolute loudest, fattest, and best controlled note anywhere on the staff.

I realize I have to do a much better job of increasing my tuba music library, as Play that Country Tuba and Yakkety Tuba just aren't the same as hearing someone like Roger Bobo. It sure was fun to hear him...that was great stuff.
