It is one of the added joys of being a tuba player, playing the instrument that is, most likely, the most interesting, and, yes, esthetically pleasing, visually speaking. On many occasions I’ve had someone tell me that they just like to look at my horn. (As an aside it should be noted that Salvidor Dali used tubas in a number of his paintings.)

As I have noted recently, I just acquired a Gronitz PCM in silver, which, I believe, is an absolutely handsome instrument. The proportions and design simply invite one to gaze at it.

Yes, I’m sure that, when selecting a horn, we are influenced, at some level, by the appearance of the instrument; fortunately tubas, in general, are just cool looking!
