This is one of the (many) reasons why I'm not in music professionally any more. I found that a lot of people would be happy to offer me free food and drink, or $20 or something, for a three hour "gig." This is not a gig; it's charity. It still astonishes me that people think that I would just fall over backwards with gratitude that they let me play my instrument for them for three hours or so without realistic compensation.

So I decided to find another means of making a living so that I could choose my charities. I can and do say no to "cheap gigs" that pay squat and use up hours and hours of my time. I can and do play real charity gigs (like at the rest home, or church, or fund raisers,) or things that are just plain fun and I want to, like community group concerts.

Ranting today, I guess.
