This really seems like a case-by-case judgement on your part. If it were me, I would have helped my friend out and subbed for the orchestra for free and asked to be payed for the less-interesting job.
I have to ask you, how was the orchestration of the De Meij? I have only heard the original band composition and am quite interested in what an orchestra arrangement would sound.
