I have three right now, and I am awaiting arrival of another 'York' Model. I have played MANY tubas, different sizes, rotary, pistons and in my opinion the Hirsbrunner tuba is the finest money can buy. Is it worth the extra money? I can only answer a resounding YES! The price is steep, but you are buying a top-of-the-line first class professional instrument. The key is buying the RIGHT instrument for your needs. The 'Yorkbrunner' while a GREAT instrument, has its limitations. It is WAAAAY too big for a weak bass section, or a small string section, you'll bury them. It can't be played in a quintet. The 4/4's are good all around horns. I had an HB-2P and was really disappointed with the AMOUNT of sound it made. Well, I was REALLY in the market for a 6/4. The 4/4 was fine in small orchestra, quintet and solo work. Buy the right horn and you won't be sorry!
