I don't know how the schools are in Memphis, but up here in Chicago many of the bigger suburban districts pay their teachers $80,000+ at 25 years of service; many times teachers can earn this at even fewer years of service. Name me another career where you can just hang around and make $80,000 a year. It wouldn't bother me so much if it were "just the government" but guess who pays the taxes to support this ? ME ! And there's not a chance I'll ever see $80,000 a year. Of couse, that doesn't even compare to the superintendents and other members of the system who believe they need $100,000+ a year just to run the schools.
