While your theory would work with todays technology, the 1969-70 timeframe when this was recorded would have produced a NOTICABLE gap in the ensuing octave. I believe that Mr. Bobo played the ink and made tuba technique take a quantum leap in a thrice. I find your theory interesting, however, unsubstantiated. When Simone Mantia first played his technically challenging pieces in Europe, many musicians insisted he had ball bearings in his valves to facilitate his prodigious technique. He didn't, the Euphonium took a quantum leap, and we now have Jr. High Schoolers who can play with the same amazing facility;ergo, your contention has little or no historical basis. I am glad for Encounters. It has been the biggest wake-up call to Tuba players since the invention of the instrument.
