although I am not overly tall, short leadpipe placement did cause me some pain in the lower ribcage, and sides of my torso for a while. The height adjustment proceedures might be able to help you. These are not in order of preference.

1. Alter leadpipe heigth. Will not work if adjustment is over an inch or two.
2. Pillow under instrument.
3. Stewart peg or DEG tuba rest. I prefer the DEG's for all of my high school players, because of the ability to get the mouthpiece to the right heigth without altering the horn angle by bringing the bottom bow in too far. I also don't have to depend on a certain type of chair. I use one professionally.
4. Wenger tuba holder. Very nice to hold tuba, very expensive unless you find one on ebay.
