According to the Pierce Piano Atlas, the Farrand Piano Company was "started in 1883 as Detroit Organ Company. Then C.J. Whitney & E. S. Votey bought the Detroit Organ Co. in 1887 and changed the name to Farrand & Votey. In 1897, the name changed to Farrand Co."

The serial number of your inherited piano corresponds to Farrand's Cecelain series, which would date it from 1920.

It is impossible to determine its value without a detailed condition report by a piano technician. Unless you can document that the piano was tuned religiously at least once a year, even if it was not played frequently, it probably needs to be totally rebuilt. That would cost more than the piano is worth, unless it holds sentimental value for you (which is priceless).

Maybe more info than you wanted, but you asked.

OK, back to our regularly scheduled tuba discussion...
