My understanding is that Arnold Jacobs preferred false tones on the York tuba over the "correct" fingerings.
At least for a while (perhaps continuing - I haven't spoken to him in quite some time) Mr. Pokorny was experimenting with false tones on the York in the Orchestra.
I tried some false tones out on THE (CSO) York and wasn't particularly impressed - To me, about like false tones on any other tubas. I liked the "real" fingerings better on the York.
I DO like false tones on 14K Conn sousaphones, though...They really slot well. Compared to the "real" tones on some tubas (YBB-321 comes to mind) Conn sousa false tones are BETTER than some tubas "real" tones.
