I agree. You don't have to have lots of money to have fun, especially when playing the tuba. The investment I have in my horns is about what one might spend on a good used car. The challenges of the different configerations of my horns help to keep my tuba playing exciting and fun. I think that most tuba players are playing for the fun of it and not professionally. A college prof who gave me tuba lessons, when I was a kid, urged me to keep tuba playing as an avocation, because I think he knew I would not pursue it aggressively enough to make a profession of it. I too wish there were alot more small town bands!
