Consider Jim Williams, who plays euph with the Tubashop Quartet (Harvey Phillips group) and the Columbus (IN) Brass Quintet. He is an "amateur" eupher by definition, because his "profession" is being a Professor of Economics/Business/Accounting at Franklin College in south central Indiana. His playing would not suggest he is of "amateur quality level", using the typically understood meaning of "amateur".

Follow a career path that you will enjoy as much as possible -- you will have to spend 40-60 hours per week doing whatever your "job" is. That's too much time to spend doing something you don't like.
