The 1290 , very similar to the 1295, is a VERY different horn from a 186 or even 188. It is much bigger, has a significantly shorter leadpipe, takes more air, has a little more finicky intonation, and requires more effort to get a clean articulation. In return for your extra work, you get a huge dark sound that will not break up that rivals the best horns out there. I would consider the horns to be apples and oranges. Neither is better, but they play and sound different. DO NOT let pistons vs. rotors make your decision, let the sound and response of the horn decide it for you.
