You've been given some good advice for someone who lives in the United States. Since you don't--perhaps you can find a brass teacher (if not a tubist) close to you to work with? It's frustrating and lonely to try and figure out problems by yourself. "More air" often solves problems. I know a young trombonist in one of the radio orchestras, I think in Turin. His name is Fabio Sampo. He has one of the most beautiful sounds I have ever heard. He is also a good teacher and very patient with amateurs.
