First, I agree with what Doug said about sharps. It's simply a case of more practice in the hard keys that makes it easier. All the CC tuba is doing is making you use different fingerings for the same sharp notes that he would be playing on his BBb.

Personally, I would take the horn to school. If you do, make the band/orchestra/jazz directors aware of that so that they know to "watch out for it," in a sense. They might even offer that you leave it in their office for safe keeping. Also, a hard case is essential for a situation like this. Make sure that it's sturdy enough that people can sit on it (trust me, they will if they can) without hurting the horn, and make sure that it can be locked. Better yet would be to arrange to get a locker for the horn at school (if available) that you have complete control over.
