No, I was sitting downstairs; I have to believe that there were a number of tuba players at Davies during the run. This reminds me of the famous story of the first time Jacobs played Pictures with the CSO. Shortly after being appointed to the chair (late 40's) Pictures was programmed and Jake let it be known that he was going to play Bydlo on a big C. Every tuba player in the lower 48, who could figure out how to get to Chicago, was there to watch him crash and burn. Of course we all know the end of this story---------legends and icons aren't conceived by noted failure.
