Rhodium is an element in the platinum family, used commonly in the jewelry industry for plating. Lasts longer than gold or silver because when it is scrathed it doesn't remove any of the plating, the molecules actually part like when a boat passes through water. My wife is a goldsmith, and that's all I can get out of her. As for the price, well, it was free for me. I don't know who, if anyone, offers this service, most places just do gold or silver.
