The Mehta/LA should not be difficult to fine. It's been reissued in Phillips Eloquence line and should cost no more than $7.99. Includes Mehta/LA Close Encounters and Stars Wars Theme.
No one has mentioned the new recording on Hyperion by the Halle Orchestra under Mark Elder with the added Pluto movement. Aside from the questionable merits of Pluto, this is one of the best recordings of the Planets, and it certainly joins a pantheon of powerful rivals. Perhaps a British correspondent could identify the tuba player and tell us what instrument he played on this recording. Must be heard. If you put it on, you WILL hear it. Can't miss it.
