When my orchestra played this piece in high school, this is precisely what I did. However, it started because the bass bone and tuba parts are written on the same page, and neither the conductor, nor the bass bone play, no I noticed that the parts in the other movements were bass trombone only. When I noticed our mistake, I just kept it to myself, as I was very content playing the whole piece rather than the alotted 16 bars. I think I played most of the parts as written though, not 8vb. If you do double the part all the way through, be sure to concentrate on balance, because it is very easy to overpower the orchestra on some of the forte and fortissimo sections--the adrenaline gets flowing and the music is in a nice register, and it is very tempting to belt it out as loud as (musically) possible. But is a a lot of fun to play if you can convince you conductor.
