I have a vinyl LP of Dame Jenkins, called something like The Glory of the Human Voice. It is both historical and hysterical. Ms. Jenkins was a patroness of the arts, and rich enough to rent Carnegie Halls for her own personal concerts, open to the public. Apparently, the concerts were standing-room-only, and in those more polite days the audiences worked really hard to avoid laughing out loud.
Was it Richard who used the term "vainglorious" today?
Personally, I can't listen to more than about half the album before I have to come up for air. Part of what makes it so painful is the sure knowledge that I would be worse.
