For grace under fire (and fire that was beyond well-deserved), one must look to the example of Florence Foster Jenkins. Hers was a voice that must be heard to be believed, but she held public recitals for decades. Critics often rated her performances in terms that set new standards for skating around the obvious, yet she was respected for her perseverence (though not her "talent").
