I have never heard of the ophicleide before this year, and lately I've seen quite a few posts on this BBS with references to it.

Do a lot of tuba players play this thing?
I know Midsummer Night's calls for this instrument. Which other pieces do?
Do professional orchestra just have the tuba player play the part or do they seek out
freelance ophicleidists?

For those who don't know, an ophicleide is a half-tuba half-woodwind instrument... I think you play it much like a tuba, but it has keys (as woodwind instr. do)... it kind of sounds like a contrabassoon, but less hollow sounding..
