I don't know how other states do it, but in Texas we go district-region-area-state. Now the music is the same throughout the entire process, which goes to January. If you have access to a computer, you can get your tryout pieces in late July. That gives you roughly five months for the same three pieces. To me, that dosen't seem fair. For choir in Texas, they get different and more challenging music for every level they advance. I think you will never find out who are your good players until the band audition procedure is changed to the choir way. Anybody can learn three etudes in five months. But how about nine, each time progressivly getting harder? What do yall think? Again, I'm talking about Texas. I dont know how other states run their stuff.
