"Why can't a major orchestra trim its application pool from 200+ to 10 on the basis of resumes?" for this simple reason......MY resume was rejected from national. however, i am a semi-finalsit for the new york phil. is the resume system still a fair way? i think not. if you look up at the list for other semi finalists invited to the ny phil audition, it includes several young players such as myself with little resume experience who most likely were rejected from the national audition. the truth is, those who took the live audition WERE "resume qualified". these are the players who as described by mr. guilford had bad time, intonation, and tone. not so called "young players" who had "weak resumes".
