Wow! This is interesting. I really like following some of the threads that are generated here at TubeNET; I learn constantly.
Many of you have spoken to the mouthpiece angle, but what about the buzz? Some of what I see in my playing and in some of what I read really confuses me. If I have to buzz the correct pitch, why use valves at all? Why not just buzz the correct pitch and let the horn fill in the rest? Am I misunderstanding the fundamental part of playing a brass instrument?
