MG, I would introduce vibrato to a student only after they had become fairly proficient on the horn. Ex: Senior year in high school. This will give them time to develope a characteristic sound and learn good breathing habits. Advanced tuba playeres use vibrato very seldom and some chose not to employ it at all, even in solo situations. There are few things in life so agravating as a young tubist over using this technique.
