travelin' tuba

hey all,
seems there are always lots of discussions on traveling long distances with horns and all, but this is more of a "short but repetitive" trip question. i am faced with the dilemma of having not enough room at school to keep all my horns securely. in light of the recent discussions about hauling horns on schoolbusses, i guess this is similar, although different... i am wondering a couple of things:

How bad is it on a horn to transport it back and forth via car each day? (about a ten minute trip each way), and is it better to leave it in a hardcase, even at the sacrifice of practicality?

Is it maybe any easier on a smaller horn than on a bigger horn? (just like with babies!), and is the back seat or trunk safer than shotgun?

I often drive home with a tuba in hardcase sitting upright like a person in the front seat. i get some strange looks, but i love it!

i'm probably overly paranoid here, but i can't help it.

thanks for any help.
