I've experienced the same problem Austin is speaking of.
In my case, it's not the singing problem; but somehow it is nearly impossible for me to do so without messing up the tuba airflow at the same time, thus making the pitch (and volume) of the tuba tone sag. When I try to restore the airflow, the sung tone fizzles out quickly.

Have others experienced this, and if so did you find a sound remedy?

... Or is it just one of those freak things like double-jointedness, attached vs detached earlobes, tounge curling, etc - something you can't really develop simply by substantial practice?
