Have you actually talked to Matt at Dillon's or to Mike at Brasswind? Or Charlie at the Tuba Store? I'd be willing to bet that if you talked to them real nice, they just might cut you a deal on a new VMI that might be close to the prices you are looking at.
As for the King, it's probably a good buy too. Have you said how big your son is? The King is larger and heavier than VMI. That may or may not be significant.
