As I read you, you can not have a test ride on this instrument. As in all cases, where an instrument has no documented story of ownership, a play test it very much recommended.

It is not only a question, whether this instrument is a player. More important is whether it is a player for you.

However, if this instrument is in good mechanical order, and if the price is fair, then you might have the chance for a reasonable resale.
