So what? They're winning the jobs because they're doing what conductors and committees like to hear. Perhaps you should reconsider the term tuba jock. So what if a guy can blow down the walls and practices subdivision like a crazy MF from hell. Don't you think that you need to be able to that? Most of these guys don't only practice excerpts. In fact, as a "tuba jock," I rarely ever practice excerpts. I spend 95% of my time playing etudes and solos to ensure that I have the musical aspects of playing down cold. I just can't explain the fact that it takes little effort to actually blow the walls down, but it takes tremendous time to learn that. Don't be bitter. I hate these messages posts, but I can't stand it when we bash our colleauges because they happened to win that day.
