Another Valve action problem post

I have a 50 year old BBb boosey and hawkes "besson" tuba and the valves hurt my fingers. Then amount of force required to press down is considerably greater then that of my schools Yamaha BBbs, (any 3 of them, and they are all poorly treated school instruments). Though my tuba is still quite playble, and has a far superior sound compared to the Yamahas, I still long for their smooth easy action. I have the instrument professionally cleaned (this guy does all the cleaning for one of toronto's top brass bands), lubed with many different lubes, replaced the spring and done everything i can think of, but nothing seems to bring that "stiffness" i feel in the valves when i play.

Is there any hope for me? My teacher (euph pro), suggested getting new valves. Would this affect the action at all? And if so, how much would 3 new valves for my tuba run me?

Thank you for your time.
