I used those two plus Mahler 1 and Til Eulenspiegals. Whatever you choose, make sure it's something YOU will sound good on. You don't neccesarily have to choose the hardest of them all, showcase your talents and not your weaknesses. I didn't feel ready for the Ride and for a solo I didn't feel ready for the VW(so many people play the VW...) These guys are going to hear all the same excerpts and solos from everyone else, so pick something off the beaten path. Cesar Frank's Symphony in D minor has some great, great excerpts and I bet maybe 1 out of 50 auditionees would bring this in. I'm not saying do that piece, but something like it. Its also good to show a wide spanse of knowledge of music and not just the excerpts off the pokorny cd. Last thing and I'll shut up, take all this advice from everybody and see what works for you. This stratege worked for me, but maybe not others.

later dude
