I have a student who insists on only doing solo's, particulary concerto's beyond her grasp. I try to get her to do scales, etudes, and the such, but to no avail. I like the kid, but am frustrated. I have tried alot of teaching things in my arsenal, i.e.; scales will help this sound better, etudes will help thios piece, etc, but to the same end. I am ready to dump her, but I hope someone out in Tubenet land will have a different approach to help me on this. Her best friend is an incredibly talented cellist who plays alot of standard rep, so she feels she should be doing the same "because we are in the same youth orchestra". Help?!!! Thanks. Even funny replies are welcome as this young lady has more ideals than talent. I am posting this under this name because I need the anonymity. I am a well known poster here and am not being a jerk like Snoop and his ilk.
