I've checked the archives on this subject and found it inconclusive. I'm looking to scan scores and then extract desired parts and print. I'm not sure that a full blown Finale or Sibelius is really required to do this. At MacWorld NY two years ago I saw a demo at a booth doing exactly this but I can't remember the name of the company. I'm using a Mac OS X and am also looking get a scanner, any recommendations there?
