I never liked the convertible euphoniums because they just felt like a misapplication of the concept. That hand position isn't comfortable anyway (it's what I don't like about Yamaha's 201 convertible tuba), it creates more of a blind spot than is necessary, and regular marching baris & euphs just aren't that difficult to hold up.

Build a tuba "trumpet-style"? That's just silly. Besides, most large contra-style tubas are pretty well balanced (some so evenly that they can rest on the shoulder hands-free), and it's pretty easy to stand around with one over the course of the day.

I've only been doing this for sixteen years so far, but I hope I've learned a few things along the way.
