I play on a new Conn 20K at work (USAREUR Band, Germany) and can belt out some false or "ghost" tones in tune and loud enough that makes people think I'm playing on a sousaphone with 4 valves on it. Although your idea of adding a rotary valve is interesting, it really isn't necessary. Give it a try sometime!
