I've been using one of these DEG stands (my kids call it a "Tuba-foot"), for many years with a 41" tall 4/4 tuba. If I were to rest the bottom-bow on my chair, the mouthpiece would be at the level of the top of my forehead, so the DEG stand allows me to lower the tuba while still maintaining full control. When I was in college, I played the large Besson which had a knob on the bottom-bow. I made my own "Tuba-foot" out of a length of 4x4 with a low, flat base and a hole drilled in the top for the knob. There is no reason that the vertically challenged should not play a full size tuba if they so choose.
