I agree! I have heard various professional tubists at various tuba-euph symposia that blat on low notes. It is because the instruments many of them play are pea shooters with pea shooter mouthpieces. I would hardly call these resonant sounds because they contain virtually no fundamental. Especially in trombones. It is very sad to hear all the bass trombonists playing the tuba part in brass ensembles with nothing but loud blatts. They would be more valuable it they played the bass drum instead!
