Actually, I've played my big side-action Martin with a stand and it's not much of a problem. I think the only hard part would be switching to the bass as was previously mentioned due to both instruments being oriented to the left. So I don't see why it would be next to impossible to play a side action horn in a stand-if so I've done the next to impossible!
