But the argument of "your local repair guy can make a part" doesn't hold in most areas, regardless of the instrument. Try asking your local repair guy to, oh, say make a new valve cap. Chances are his training doesn't run to knowing how to run a lathe.
There are some very notable exceptions, but they're not your typical "local repair guy".
