Jon Landell is a maker of very high-end flutes, what I call "boutique" flutes. He's made flutes from titanium, used rare-earth magnets for springs and done al sorts of interesting things--and all this has a price. I first saw his titanium-with-magnet-springs flute being offered for about $99K.

Are his instruments any better than any other builder's instruments? That's open to debate. The mainline outfits like Miyazawa and Powell still command a big hunk of the professional market. But Landell's flutes are interesting and Landell is a very good craftman.

Any of you guys want to build a titanium tuba with roller bearings in the ceramic rotary valves?

I've been wondering about something related to this discussion, though. Why aren't the valve rotation stops placed on the key levers, instead of on the rotor arm? Seems like adjustment would be easier.
