I'm sure you're right with most older tuners. But my old Korg AT-212 or whatever it is works as well as my CA-30, unless the batteries are dead. It's the one that is the size of a VHS video tape, and which has a (real) analog needle, and not the imitation needle on the CA-30. It doesn't work any better, but it works as well. Of course, it was about $200 when I bought it 15 years ago.
