miraphone 186 questions

I am in the process of purchasing a miraphone 186 5 valve CC from a friend. Does anyone out there have suggestions for mouthpieces? I would like to darken to the tone and make the sound bigger. Any suggestions on how to do this? Also I was wondering if anyone has tried cutting the 5th valve slide to the flat 1 step as opposed to the Miraphone 1 1/2 step. Thanks for any input.
