There have been mentions on this bbs about making tubas out of materials other than brass. Glass, fiberglass, and composites have been discussed as being alternatives. I theorize that there are a number of materials that might be acoustically compatible with musical instruments but brass is the one that is easy to work with, is cheap, and delivers reasonable results. I would like to hear the views of the community of scientific tubists.
