There are many on this BBS that can discuss at great lenght, in great detail, and with great knowledge about which tubas have dark color, bright color, etc. However, my understanding of whether one should choose a BB or a CC boils down to the music you will be primarily playing. Those playing ochestrial music find the CC is better suited because this music is written in keys that make fingering patterns difficult on a BB. Concert band music on the other hand would be similiarly difficult for the CC. Not impossible, just difficult. Perhaps cumbersome would be a better term than difficult. CCs cost more, model for model, because there are relatively fewer of them. But, by all means, get your own, as good as you can afford, you'll find much more enjoyment with your own than with a rented or borrowed beater. There may be some who will dispute my comments re. color, and certainly listen to their counsel, I am hardly an expert.
