My BBb York was raw brass and is stil that way. It had a main tuning slide with an extra loop added on at the factory and the slides have markings for high- vs. low-pitch. It played too low with the loop and too high without. Besides water collected in the extra loop and was murder to drain.

I canibalized a tuning slide from a York Monster Eb that had legs about an inch and a half longer than the helicon's. Same bore, though. It plays in tune now.

Still have to pull it apart and take a few dents out of the body; maybe one of these years...

In the process I discovered a good way to strip sliverplate from brass (I hate buffing it off).
