OK, OK, I know it's been done to death but the search facility ignores 'BBb' in my searches : (
Right. I'm looking for BBb opinions on the following:
1) Your choice of horn based purely on intonation-quality?
2) Choice based solely on 'ease of playing'. This is a term discussed at length by Mr Rick Denney and friends. Do notes speak easily and are technical feats (articulation, large intervals etc) relatively easy?
I'm ignoring 'sound-quality' as a choice here as I can hopefully predict the types of sound from most horns; dreadful when I play them! : )
My interest lies in 4/4ish instruments (piston or rotary) but if you feel a different sized horn needs a mention, go for it! I'd prefer the horn to have a 5th valve option as a degree of playing will be with low brass band writing (possible B-naturals etc).
Finally, what would your 'compromise horn' be if combining both categories?
Please give reasons for your answers if you have the time!
Thanks...
